Where to buy a Didgeridoo in Darwin

Mindel Beach Markets

Thur nights and Sunday nights May till October is where you can find a real bargain. Generally there are 2-3 stalls such as in these photo's.

Prices range from $60 to approx. $250.

now the problem one find when buying a Didgeridoo is that they have to get it back home and they can be heavy. the true locally made one are actually quiet heavy around 5kg.

So we suggest that you visit our Darwin Post Office or opposite the Darwin Post Office is a new business called Pack and Send some 20 metres away on the other side of the road.

Indigenous Creations is just one of around 6 art galleries and retail shops that offer quality Aboriginal art.

We visited this shop just a month ago and the staff we very friendly, knowledgeable and they had a great specials table.

We are privelged to share many of our friends experiences but we really can't display photo's of them or their work out of respect.

So we suggest spend a bit of time and look thru the different shops and absorb the traditional and evoling styles of art that we are very privilged as territorians to share our our indigenous friends.

Another art gallery the locals appreciate is 'Framed' the Darwin Gallery 55 Stuart Highway tel 08 8981 2994 - it's out on the Stuart Highway around 2.5km from the mall and it offers a wide range of value art from the Top End and also central Australia.

Darwin Aboriginal Artists work with both traditional and modern techniques. They now create works using techniques such as sandpainting we know it as dot paintings, x-ray styles also known as skelton painting by some, bark paintings, weaving craftwork and carvings that include didgeridoos, boomerangs, and spears.

There are certain tribal cultural beliefs that is represented in art that cannot see though at the Museum and Art Gallery of Northern Territory you will see a much broader range of valued works.

Now at the Holiday inn which has entrances on Mictchell Street and the Esplanade go in and you will see the art gallery there. It is definatley worth stopping at.
