Darwin - the Capital City of Northern Territory

Darwin: This is the most popular town and also the territorial capital of the Northern Territory. It is a city of about 110000 inhabitants with a large proportion of Aboriginal people, which justify the fact that the town is sometimes called 'the multicultural capital of Australia'.

Darwin: The Capital city of Northern Territory, Australia is Darwin.

Now Darwin is closer to Jakarta than to Sydney, and also closer to Singapore than to Melbourne. Darwin is located right at a harbour/bay often called Port Darwin. The city stretches all the way to the Beagle Gulf, which is part of the Timor Sea. Right across Port Darwin, a 15-minute ferry ride will bring you to Mandorah.

It is not really a suproise then that Darwinians looks to Asia for travel, influences in dress and food as much as it looks south to the rest of Australia. Darwin's proximity and relationship such as it's sister city program with the northern territory's northern neighbours is reflected in Darwins cosmopolitan and relaxed tropical atmosphere and culture.

The population varies as the Dry season arrives so does an influx of workers for the harvest, mining and tourist season.

The Territory offers very good information on Darwin

I have lived here (on and off) since 1988 and it has to be one of a few cities that I have known that every one of every religon and race seems to live in harmony. We are known as Darwinian's and generally are hard working on the one side but laid back and relaxed after hours on the other. When I first arrived here in 1988 it was a case of anything I wanted or ordered was "yah mate - it will be here tomorrow ( 2 weeks later). Now Darwin has changed and with service at the level of major southern cities service levels and products are found to be of a premium.

There is one major problem when you visit Darwin. That is you will want to stay; it has happened to everyone we know. It's a great city and even better life style. Imagine many things that other capital cities have as infrastructure well we have too and it's all around 15 mins drive from one to the other.
